Perhaps I am retarded or something but I do not see here exactly what the complaint is...

"Yes I know its a small screen, only 10 inches. But my old laptop is 12 inches and three times better"

Better? If size is the issue, then why does he say this...

"If any of you are interested in the Samsung, check the screen and make sure its up to the standard you expect"

instead of say, make sure that 10" is okay for you. People would not need to look at the Samsung in particular.
Then he wants another netbook, only an Acer or Asus. If it was the size of the screen that was the only serious
issue then logically he could look at buying a Samsung 12" as well as an Acer or Asus.

He implies that it is a quality issue with the LCD or LCD control logic, no? Having designed LCD/graphics
controller chips before, I was curious.

Hi rjj04, have reread my post and realize I could have been more specific.

The screen on this model was IMO blurred, low resolution.

I should have written - the screen on my old laptop is three times better.

This model has a LED screen. Don`t know the difference between LCD and LED.

Im not a computer techician like you. Only a consumer of the end product.

Thank you

Sorry, your explanation was fine for 99.99% of folks, I guess I just had a special interest in knowing that. Thank you!
Think I am a bit touchy sometimes on this site, since there seem to be a few people that enjoy poking others for no
good reason... something Thai people are not wont to do... need to jai yen yen I think.

My Asus has a very nice display, I'm sure you would not be disappointed with it.

I have never worked with the new LED displays you mentioned, been out of the display tech area for a few years
now. The early days of LCD technology meant the chip designers had to play with algorithms to "fool" the eye into integrating the light correctly and "seeing" what it would see on a CRT. With the TFT LCDs it reduced
the problems considerably, but it looks like these LED displays have similar issues. Anyway, something to think
about when looking for a new notebook again... hopefully this Asus holds up for me, seems a bit flimsy structurally
though, but fingers crossed.

Sound like a wrong configuration of the display settings?

KHONDAHM wrote:Speaking of HDD, I highly recommend swapping the HDD for a SSD (Solid State Drive) if you have a few extra baht/dollars to kick around.

Strike that recommendation. :^o Now that I have one - bought an HP MINI 110 running Windoze 7 Starter yesterday - the 533 MHz bus speed of the CPU is so slow that any performance gains from an SSD would be minimal. Certainly not worth the cost of the SSD. The CPU is even slower than the RAM (667 MHz). Adequate for the surfing, emailing, watching videos, and light multi-tasking.

I did however opt to upgrade to 2 GB RAM and slapped in an 8 GB SanDisk Extreme III SDHC card to take advantage of Readyboost for a performance increase. The SDHC card was orphaned when I upgraded my main notebook to an SSD drive, so it is nice to put it to use again. For anyone looking to get a value-for-money performance increase (and running Vista or 7), an SDHC card is the way to go. Assuming one is not opening up multiple apps requiring prodigious amounts of RAM on a netbook, I would even go against conventional thinking and say that the SDHC card is BETTER than a RAM upgrade if you find you are not maxing the 1 GB RAM. The benefit is increased read/write speeds for many of the Windoze system activities. More RAM if you are not using it is just wasted money.

Anyway, that's just my song-baht.

Cheers!

Oh! The 8 hour battery life is a BIG plus, too!

Ok, after a month of use, here's my report: Don't buy one.

"I wish I woulda" bought a tablet touchscreen instead. I am on it as I type this and I have to F11 to get a decent view of any website. The browser bar (I use Firefox) takes up a LOT of screen real estate - and I have only Yahoo bar showing. Scrolling is awkward by any means except a mouse. Touchpad scrolling irritates my finger after only a few minutes. I feel cramped typing on the keyboard with my big hands - keys don't feel like they are where they are supposed to be and I find myself looking at the keys and backspacing over typos way too much. The USB ports are on the front-sides which makes accidentally breaking any USB drive very possible. I like to switch viewing angles a lot and the position of the USB ports are a big inconvenience - should be towards the rear where they are away from my hands.

Even with all the upgrades, I get frustrated not being able to occasionally run other apps (i.e Microsoft Virtual PC which I use extensively for work). It doesn't even install. VMWare installs, but I haven't really used it yet. Running iTunes with video Skype and Firefox pretty much brings it to a crawl.

I will continue to endure using it until I convince myself to replace it with the aforementioned touchscreen tablet PC. Until then, I find myself using it to remote control my main laptop (HP-HDX) more and more which sorta is why I got it (to work from bed), but sheesh, not for so much basic stuff.

Anyway, just my song-baht.

Cheers! ;)

Well, a netbook is a very simple laptop. And, you said it yourself: "Adequate for the surfing, emailing, watching videos, and light multi-tasking.". So don't expect to much from it... In your previous post you mentioned using a SDHC card in combination with Readyboost, but also you upgraded to 2GB. Readyboost never did what it promised, and sure won't help a lot if you already have 2GB's of RAM.

Besides my laptop, i have an Asus EEE PC 900, but never expected to much from it. I use it only for surfing, emailing and watching videos... ;) . Yes, the screen is small. So, don't use any tool bars and switch of the status bar. You can also move the Windows taskbar to the left or right, gives you some more vertical screen (but of course also less horizontal).

Not sure, but i think the reason Virtual PC won't install is because the processor isn't supported. Anyway, i think your post gives useful information for people considering buying a netbook.
