ABC Spell check

Postby SanukJoe » February 3, 2010, 10:20 am

My old laptop (it died 2 weeks ago) showed in the toolbar an icon for ABC spell check.

Very comfortable, just highlight your text and click, very useful for non native English speakers!

Now I have a new desktop, but nowhere I can find this ABC spell check. I have the Google and Yahoo toolbars but no spell check. I googled but cannot find it.

Anyone has the solution to this?

Thanks in advance.

What browser are you using?

If it is Firefox, there are several dictionaries available which will highlight any incorrectly spelled word, and then if you right click on that word, will give you the correct spelling.

Click on Tools > Add-ons > Get add-ons, and then search for dictionaries.

Ah, many would say that is your first error then Joe... :D :D
I think there are a few available for IE. IE7 Pro seems to be amongst the favourites & can be downloaded for free from a fair few locations.

A google on IE7 free spellchecker
will, I am sure bring up alternatives...

As an aside....
Personally I would dump the Yahoo and Google toolbars...if you find one an especially good search mechanism (& personally I prefer Google) then you can always use it as the "Home Page" rather than having extra toolbars...

Maybe you have to switch it on in the Google Toolbar. Go to Adjust Toolbar options, Options, Tools, Spell Check.

That is the problem Jorg, in Toolbar options there is no "Tools" so also no "Spell check".

I downloaded Google toolbar again, in the "get started" example there is the Spell check but it doesn't appear at the top.

Bob, I use only Google toolbar, switched off Yahoo.

I will give it another try by downloading IE 8, maybe that helps.

Strange, works for me like that (IE 8). The tools option is on the right side and represented by a symbol of a tool (a wrench).

I myself prefer also using Firefox with the add-on for spell-checking.

Jorg, no wrench on the right... the only Google buttons I have are Pop-up blocker and Options, the latter doesn't show tools or spell check, very strange...

EUREKA! I found it!

I didn't found anything at all, but the nice thing with computers is (other than with cars, machinery) if you have a problem, close the comp, get something to eat, start up the comp again and there is the solution.

So I have now ABC spell check plus IE7 Pro (thanks Bob) and it works \:D/

Now because of your recommendations and knowing that you guys have no financial interest in them I will download Firefox and give it a try...

Thanks guys for your help =D>

"found" should have been "find", no spell check can prevent such errors LOL
