Air flight from Bangkok to Udonthani and return

Postby my_key » April 7, 2010, 11:03 am

Hi,
am flying in to Bangkok on the 1 June, 1 night stopover in Bangkok and then flying on to Udonthani. Which air service gives reasonable value and reliability. Thai is very expensive and has reasonable travel hours, Air Asia is cheap - but hour of departure and landing are not so good, and can not afford any cancellations; NOK air also expensive but question reliability; can someone please advise cost Vs reliability. I do not want to catch a bus or train as time is important.
thanks in advance

If you have much luggage you are better off paying the extra for Thai. I believe Air Asia only allows 20 kilos. Anything over you pay extra can get expensive if you are way over. Flown both Air Asia is ok except for the weight allowance

Air Asia morning flights are generally reliable. Any slippage will occur later during the day if they encounter delays with earlier flights. Pay for your baggage when you book - it will be much more expensive at the airport.

Depending on what you have planned for your 1 night in Bangkok (hmmm!....reminds me of a song), you could book one of the many hotels close to Swampy, and get the 7am flight, and have a full day in Udon.

Nok is also reliable. As you will stay in Bangers, you could get a hotel closer to Don Muang, and also get the a.m. flight.

Thai - bl00dy expensive now, unless you have extra luggage.

The last couple of times i went down to Bangkok (latest was last week), and checking today for my wife to make a quick trip next week, Air Asia and Nok were within about 100 baht of one-another when the final price came up. The difference in taxi + toll to the lower Sukhumvit area is less than 100 baht, so its best to just book the one that has the most convenient schedule. Be aware that historically, both of the airlines cancel flights that look too empty and you might end up being involuntarily switched from one to the airline to the other because of flight cancellation.

For a premium, you can also fly Thai Air. Rarely worth it (to me).
