Thought I'd share this with you.
I was just reading an article in APC Magazine, tried the tweak then low and behold a very noticeable performance increase. This option relates to Xp, I don’t know if Vista or Windows 7 have the same option. Has to do with the operating system reserving 20% (by default) of the connection bandwidth for it’s own use whether needed or not.
To try it:-
Start>Run “gpedit.msg” (no quotes)
GoTo – Local Computer Policy/Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/
Network/QOS Packet Scheduler/Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Click on Enable and set it to Zero. The OS will then only use what it needs, works for me!
