I really see it in simple terms.I believe that someone who treat others like this,''simply'' do not respect them,for whatever reason!

I ''simply'' choose to not be close, do business or associate with this type person,falang or Thai!

My friends,Thais or falangs don't act like this,the others I acknowledge with friendly or neighborly smile/nod and go on about my business!

I do not subscribe to the thinking that ''we'' are responsible for Thai thinking or actions.I am not a member of ''we'',just because I am a falang!Those that think like that,IMO,are rationalizing/justifying their ignorant,predjudicial,racist behavior!I don't give them any encouragement,try to change them or allow them into my personal life!

And that is based on your experience and knowledge. At best. I am sorry that you feel desillusioned but you do not have all the answers. You will probably never have.

You can bet that the Pattaya bargirl with multiple sponsors earning hundreds of thousands of Baht a month, will NEVER pay for anything either when she is with her farang du jour.

I think women are like that throughout the world personally even in Western countries, "What's yours is mine and what's mine's my own" is the female motto WORLDWIDE.

But Thai women are very poor it is granted !

Yes in Thai culture the wealthiest is often expected to pay, however as someone pointed out this is usually a mark of respect (recognized by wai's, polite behavior and speech etc).

It's worth pointing out there is also a "host-pays" element to Thai culture too, tho this is often forgotten with "farangs"

I think the way farangs are expected to pay has developed into something quite different, especially in uneducated thai society - rather than a mark of respect it seems to have become a mark of a fool easily parted with his money Not all Thai's think this way of course, but it seems to many that money comes too easily to westerners, whereas we all know the reality is some of us are either just a little too kind hearted or a little too attention starved, or both, after 40+ years of perhaps lonely work and hard saving back in blighty or stateside or wherever.

It is important to learn not to be taken advantage of, and this is not easy when you have to try an make this determination as a compromise between Thai culture and your own.

But chances are if after a while you are constantly starting to feel like a chump that you probably are one
