Bomb at Big C in Khon Kaen

Postby ttom » January 13, 2007, 6:08 pm

Friends where telling me that just three days ago a bomb went up at the Big C Superstore in Khon Kaen.

Does somebody know more about this? Due to the tight media control the press where not allowed to mention anything yet.

Family and friends are very frightened that Udon Thani might be the next place bombers might targeting.

Khon Kaen indefinitely postpones OTOP fair

Khon Kaen - The administration of this northeastern province Thursday indefinitely postponed the One Tambon One Product Fair for fear of untoward incidents.

Suttha Saiwanit, a development official of the province, said the Khon Kaen had ordered the postponement of the fair, which was initially scheduled to be held for a week at the provincial hall from Thursday.

He said all booths had been removed following the order.

I don't know eithe but I will say this on Friday whren we got home the nieghbors told us not to go to Lotus as they found a bomb there. We had just left Lotus and there was nothing going on. The several neighbors told us not to go to Robinson on Saturday aa it was going to be bombed. as far as I can tell it is still there. At this juncture it really doesn't seem worth the effort to do another bomb, they are getting the desired effect without it.

The Thai governement may be able to keep a lid on local new, but if there is another incident other then the south it will make the national news. I haven't seen anything on this incident.

People are edgy now and that is to be expected and as I posted early on this, these things really bring out the nut buckets. Now that being said I think and hope it is a rumor

14 Jan 07,

My wife has just told me that it has been on the TV that a bomb has gone off this morning in Tesco/Lotus in Udon and that four people have been killed. Eceryone here is talking about this. Does anyone have any definite information? ie if you have just come back from Tesco, let us know.

As I see nothing else on the forum, I'm assuming that it is just another rumour?

Checked the Nation and Bangkok post big story of the day seems to be a train crash in Hua Hin. Sunds very similar to the story of Khan Kean and the big C doesn't it?

Well amongst all the rumours a fact for you. The heightened security I referred to re; Childrens day was caused by the discovery at Nong Sang, only 4 kilometres from Phui Lom a cache of explosive devices numbering 22 in all., 19 complete , ready to use bombs and 3 incomplete devices. Local villagers scavenging the area had noticed unusual activity and reported it to the police. The devices were found hidden in a cave, 3 mtrs underground. An Army spokesman reportedly said they were large enough to have blown parts of a car, if used that way, onto the roof of a three story building.
Photo shows army bomb disposal engineers examining the objects.

With regard to the many rumours circulating. May I suggest that members make a simple phone call to the store in question to verify or otherwise, before posting on here , thus propogating them.

First everyone should be diligent.

With that said every day we walk to the market on Soi Nung Ngum. It is almost like a side show to wait to heat the latest rumor circulating. If I paid attention to all rumors, I would not leave my house and then be scared anyway. As some one else said, "listen with a grain of salt".

Due diligence is the only way to handle these kinds of rumors, I agree. Wetting your undies and staying away from the shopping centers everytime a rumor begins to circulate means the hoax perpetrator jerks win. I'm convinced that you need to be fatalistic to survive in this part of the world whether you're riding on a bus to Bangkok, riding a motorcycle, driving a car/truck in the traffic or, lately, shopping at the mall.

Don't give the bastards the satisfaction. :x

And the fault of the intelligent man: you did not see the difference between 'it has been' and 'she saw'. In other words: she did not see it personally, this story was only told to her. And you will need to ask her at least three times unitl she comes up with this truth, I bet. Thai style...
