Google unveils Nexus One phone

Postby BobHelm » January 6, 2010, 10:20 am

It had been rumoured for a couple of weeks, now has happened.
Gather that Google rational about this is the number of people who are now using hand held devices to access the internet rather than pcs & want to make sure they do not miss out.
Expensive direct (330 GBP) but every phone company will be able to offer them (unlike the i-phone which is tied to 1 service provider per country) so expect prices to be about 100 GBP (with contract) after the initial rush has died down. I expect to see in Laos duty free for a few thousand baht on my next trip. :D :D

They're certainly very ambitious aren't they? A few things spring to mind:

Apple will have to extricate itself from the O2 deal if Nexus One starts taking a significant share of the market.

Nexus One is new and may suffer from bugs so it may be worth waiting a while before buying one.

Technology is geared towards iPhone apps at the moment so Nexus will have to meet that challenge.

Note in the link how Nokia maintains a large share of that market - I wonder what new product they have up their sleeve? Nokia obviously have vast experience in the mobile 'phone industry, so it may be worth waiting to see what products they field in 2010.

Feel free to shoot me down if you disagree with anything.
