Hot off the press

Postby parrot » April 11, 2010, 4:19 pm

For those who are used to the first hints of spring in March and April, Thailand can be an unpleasant surprise. As it's too hot to venture outside of the air conditioned room, here are some stats from 10 years of weather taking (digital therm, countryside just outside of Udon):
Highest temp recorded: 103 on 10 April 2001
Most 100 degree days in a year: 7 days in Mar-May 2005
Earliest 100 degree day: 31 Mar 2005
Latest 100 degree day: 7 May 2002

First 100 degree day in 2010: today, 100 degrees

One final weather note: When we were in Texas, we noticed ants swarming a day or so before storms would hit. We're not talking the usual walking in line ant formation....we're talking about ants running like there's no tomorrow. We've noticed the same thing here.....a few days ago, ants suddenly bloomed out of nowhere and sought shelter on our porch and under our house. My wife and I both predicted it'd rain. It did, nearly 24 hours later. You can believe it or not.

Yes, it's certainly been hot lately. It was touching 38C (100F) in my bedrooms last week.

..And when I passed the Clock Tower at 6.33pm last night, on my way to the Night Market, it was showing 37C (that must be about 98F).

Arjay,

No, those were late afternoon temperatures upstairs, when we stay away from the bedrooms. :D We use the AC when we go to bed! Though I have even been using one downstairs lately, in the afternoons.

Hi

Don't know what websites you guys use for weather but the official Thai Weather forcasting / reporting department had us over 100 f for over 2 weeks consistently recently with a high of 41.3.

My wife joked today, that to keep cool she will spend 2 hours in Index, 2 hours in Homepro, and 2 hours in Lobinsons Mall during the day. I said OK as long as you don't spend any money.
