Internet access

Postby SanukJoe » December 30, 2009, 12:27 pm

I have a laptop but the only reasonably priced option seems to be GPRS, I checked at TrueVisions too as I have their satellite disc, but they don't offer Internet connection. If you have a good tip I will be pleased to know it.

Cheers

I have been told that TT&T have a 5 meg per month offer for Bht 1,070 and is reasonably fast even out in the sticks. Might be worth a look ;)

Re: Internet access

From another thread where it was off topic I took this problem here and hope to find good advice.

As I live in rural Isan in a village without telephone landlines I am using a mobile GPRS Internet connection and a laptop.
This connection gives me a speed of 230 kbps (which is very slow) and regularly the connection drops, resulting in renewed log in at some websites. I can neither download video's like from YouTube nor large files.

My question: does anyone of you have a solution for this and what would be the costs?

Thanks in advance.
Joe

Wazza, thanks for your suggestion, just I think the GPRS (AIS) is the problem.

You mean 5 MB speed?

They have a website?

Depending on where you live, you may be able to access CAT's CDMA service. We used the service for a year and a half....speed wasn't anything to brag about 130kbps, but it was steady day and night, rain or shine. CAT offers higher speeds, depending on what equipment you use. Everything depends on how close you live to their towers.
Visit the CAT office (international phone) and they can answer your questions.

Thanks a lot guys for your help.

Parrot, it's the speed that annoys me, or better said the lack of speed, so if I would have 130 Kbps it would throw me back as I now have 230 Kbps (and that is amazingly slow compared to 3 Mbps I was used to in Europe).

Jorg, seems a good url to look at, I will do in the new year.

I will also have a look at Aardvark's suggestion TT&T, just afraid it's not for mobile connection.

Anyway,some nice input,thank you all.

Will throw myself now into the village celebrations, big fun.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!
