Heading into town from Nong Khai, after you go over the lights on the ring road, after the Mazda showroom on the left hand side is a Government Department building - I believe Motor Vehicle. It is pretty easy to spot as it is festooned with Thai flags outside. This is where you need to go to do (for example) the transfer of a motorbike from one owner to a new one. To my knowledge you cannot 'test' for any vehicle there.
Merchant seaman is correct on where the main motor car & motor bike testing centre is. I am not sure if there is another one in Udon..

Motorbike license test centre?

Fred, if you're looking for the place where you can take tests to get a license to ride one then it (Land Transport Office) is located approx 13 km south of Udon, watch for a purple building on the right side. Make sure you take your license from your home country. Otherwise, you will have to take a computer test (in English) and a road test. Also be sure to take along your passport, yellow book or letter from Immigration, health certificate, some money and your longhaired translator. Don't worry if you don't have a motorbike, if you have to take the road test you can rent a bike from the guy who runs the road test.

If you're looking to get a plate or registration for a bike then follow Bob's or merchant seaman's advice.

Hi,
Went there end of last year to get a M/B and M/C lic. Had British Lic. so quite simple. If you do the two together, two separate Thai. Lics. it will be far easier. They give me a Med. form which has to be signed by a doctor. Got mine done in Ponyavejinter Hosp. cost 100B. Even though I own house I still had to get a letter from immigration saying that I had lived there for so many years etc. TIT. Do not take photos, they do there own straight on to the comp. Also you need you passport as it's number goes onto the D.L. under I.D.
Best to go early morning and the beginning of the week to avoid long wait.
When you go toward K.K. you will past a place where drivers go to learn to drive, take the next U-turn to get to D.L.Center.

Fred,

Not necessary to get med form from Dept of Trans, save time by going to any clinic for med cert and save money. Many clinics will do for under 100bt. Example:

papaguido wrote:If medical certificate needed, there's a clinic in town that will provided it for 30bt (as long as you're breathing, health check not done). It's next door to Neeg Soon supermarket, next to the BKK bank ATM machines.

Hi, pap.
Tried to go that way at the end of last year, they would not accept a 30B one got from a clinic. Had to go back to Udon again with the form they give me. They said it had to be signed by a qualified doctor, as stated on the back of the form. The form was a double sided A4 paper. Had everything on it, eye test, colour blindness test, and all the usual health checks. on it. So in the long run costs me 300B plus, with the extra trip, trying to save 70B.
Funny thing is the form had Col. Blind. test on it which had to be filled in by the doctor. When I went back with it to the D.L.C. they give me another C.B. test. TIT.
Nothing is written in stone in LOS and can alter every day. Just stating my experience in getting my two "temporary" Thai. lics. Hope the five year lic is easier when I go for it this year.
Got to take daughter to DLC to get her Lic. next week, HELP, so when upstairs will ask about this.
By the way I don't know What dl's Fred has got. If British, he can drive out here for 12 months on it. If he leaves LOS before 12 months, he gets another 12 months on his return, if you do not leave before 12months, you have to get a Thai lic. I checked this the other month with D.L.C. bossman.
Fred if you want you can come with me to D.L.C. next week. Let me know when you are able to go, and where you want picked up. I'm retired so my time is my own. At least then you will know how to get there. And what to do. My wife can take the daughter there sometime.

Hey I'm not doubting you're experience. My step-son and my wife's friend went 2 weeks ago. One paid 30bt, the other 60. Another guy related his experience on the "other forum" that he got his 5 yr license without even being asked for a med certificate. To my knowledge, from reading this forum your experience is the first I heard of. But like you said nothing written in stone :D

My lady got her 5-yr. licence yesterday at the AEK center. She was asked for a medical report for which she went upstairs and paid B100 to get one; they did check her blood pressure.

On a point of clarification:

The last I read here, if one does not have a yellow book, one must get a letter from the Land Transportation Department requesting that Immigration provide a letter certifying the address of your residence (for which Immigration will request other documents). Is this practice still followed?

"A doctor's certificate stating that the applicant is in good health, both physically and mentally (standard forms are available from most clinics and should not be more than 30 days old)"

Back up a few post and read my post giving directions for a clinic that only charges 30bt for the med chit.

The links above cover it pretty well. You can get the medical certificate at just about any clinic here. Personally, I got mine from my regular doctor at AEK Udon and details are hazy but doubt that he even charged me for it.

Thanks for your help .... Another question please

As the link states , you need a non immigrant visa ... which visa would be cheaper or better for me , as I married to a Thai and it it makes any difference I have a yellow book .

Thanks again
