Music VCD's (kareoke) Transfer to Music CD's....?

Postby beer monkey » September 26, 2009, 7:33 pm

I want to get the music from VCD's onto a standard music CD ....the VCD's won't play on a CD player, but ok in a DVD player for the TV.....the Mrs just wants to play them on her CD player, can i just copy the music onto my Lap top then transfer on a standard CD...that will play on a run of the mill CD Player...?
I read Bumpers thread but thought this may be a bit differant.
Thanks.

Can be done BM....but (from memory) I used one of the free ripper programs that you can download, rather than Microsoft. Download the CD to your pc...from memory I think you get 3 different file 'types' (extension names). If the CD player can play MP3 recordings then this is undoubtedly the best format to go for as you can fit HEAPS on a CD. Then just google "free (whatever the VCD extension is (maybe WAV) to MP3 converter" & it should come up with more than a few.
p.s. I normally ask the search to EXCLUDE the word TRIAL - a lot of the programs are not actually free but very limited trials which you go to the trouble of downloading only to find you cannot use.... :( :(

google is your friend BM.

There are a few different formats for karaoke VCDs - the first thing to do is have a look in windows explorer to see what sort of files are on the VCD. Then do a google search (convert xxx files to cd format etc) for the best ripper/converter. Windows Media Player is not going to do the job.

You may have to look in a torrent search engine such as Mininova to find a "reasonably priced" :D version of the software.

The best software I have found for this is Cucusoft.

You can download it free at the link below
http://www.cucusoft.com/ultimate-dvd-vi ... -suite.asp

The output format you want to choose for your older CD player is .wma

Although it is a trail version, it never expires and does not affect audio file conversion from video. Only if you are going from video to video does it place a text message over the converted files.

I have just found (and used) a great little program to split off and convert (to MP3 format) the music files from .dat format video files that you often find on the local karaoke VCDs. :D

Best news it is free. \:D/ =D>

The only limitation is that you can only do one file at a time, but it is very quick, and I have done an 18 track VCD in about 5 minutes.

I have a problem with this...I want to convert some music from a VCD and I know there are programs out there to do this. However, when I put the VCD into my laptop it is just ignored as if nothing is there. I have a decent spec Dell Inspirion just over a year old. How can I get my laptop to read the VCD or even acknowledge its presence? :-k

vp, is it only an issue with VCDs - ie does the lappy recognise music CDs and DVDs?

Have you tried googling something like <computer won't recognise vcd>?

First response I came up with was this http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/5247 ... drive.html
