Picasa Face Recognition

Postby parrot » December 20, 2009, 7:53 pm

If you want a taste of face recognition software, maybe have a few gazillions of unorganized photos on your computer, and have some time to spare, take a look at Picasa's face recognition feature. I went through 8 gigs of photos taken over the past 12 years with digital cameras along with a few scanned in older photos. The free software does an amazing job! I'm assuming it's the same sort of software that's used in the UK and elsewhere to ID criminals.

In probably 2000+ photos of our daughter, the only mismatches were with her mother's face, which seems logical.

Once you go through and put names to faces, it makes scanning through a disorganized photo library much easier.

Picasa is a free download from google.

Cannot find that functionality in my (Dutch) version (3.1.0. Build 71.43.0) of Picasa?

On 15 August 2006, Google announced it had acquired Neven Vision whose technology can be used to search for features within photos such as people or buildings. Google applied this technology for face recognition and this functionality was launched on Picasa Web Albums on the 2nd of September 2008.[7]

Thanks, but that should work in the Dutch version to then? If I follow your link I'm redirected to the Dutch version :( (maybe because I have a Dutch version of Windows).

I guess the Dutch version hasn't this function yet, it says to me that 3.1 is the most recent version. Downloaded 3.6 on Cnet (English version) and now it is working. Indeed it works good!
