The only hotel I've used in Khon Kaen is the "Sofitel Raja"... IMHO it's the best hotel in NE Thailand, but I think it was 1900 Baht/night.
Would certainly recommend it.

stayed one night in the Sawasdee Hotel only as i was very tired from driving and wanted to get my head down, under 800 baht, inc standard breakfast, only 2 or 3 storey place, but very nice room very large Hong Narm, near night market off of pracha samoson road i think according to my map,a road off the main route to Udon Easy to find. Was aiming for the sofitel, spotted the lights from a distance but ended up somewhere else.Image

Try this budget hotel

We like the Kaen Inn when we stay in KK. Very good evening show, a lot of locals come here, to see the stunning showgirls.

Oups, just came back from Khon Kaen...
Stayed at Sofitel, 4500 baht for two nights, upgrade to suite, 2 buffet meals for two, great deal, found at Greenwoodtravel.nl (dutch site)

I liked the main market near the hotels, a lot better than what Udon has to offer.
