transport from Khon Kaen to Nong Khai

Looking for a recommendation on transporation between our hotel in Khon Kaen to Nong Khai (we have transporation arranged over the boarder. Right now I think we'd like to arrange for a car and driver. I know our hotel can arrange this for us but my experience in other locations in Thailand is hotels catering to farangs tend to charge 5X as much as what one can arrange in town. Since we will only be in Khon Kaen one day I'm hoping someone can recommend a relaible local travel agent or let me know if any local taxi can do this (and will they use their meter or what is the typical charge to expect)
