UBC

Hi,
Wonder if any board member can help me with info. on UBC.
I need to know what signal strength you are receiving, and wither in Udon we are on the edge of the footprint or not.
Sig. strength can be found by using the handset. This is how UBC man checked it.
I'm having a lot of trouble lately with reception. UBC came and checked. He said tree in next doors garden was effecting the reception. He did not like my reply to that, and said to move the aerial would cost 1500B!!! I said no thanks.
Next door got the tree cut down, very good of him, still the same poor reception. I was going to call UBC and ask them to come and check it now the tree was down. Wonder what excuse they would use. Anyway wife did not want that. When cloud or rain is about we loose all picture and sound completely.
Myself I think it is the LNB that is at fault. Her indoors will not listen to me, and will not mention this to UBC.
Cheers for your help Doug.

I heard from the in-laws today that it's been raining and a bit windy the past couple of days. They have reported a bad or no signal. It might not only be your problem Doug!

Doug, do you have any hills near you or is your dish angled or closely overshadowed by the roof? Sometimes things like that can affect signal reception. We used to have problems when rain clouds were approaching over the hills behind us. Also had problems recently where there was a connection in the cable that had come lose.

Hi,
Thanks Alchai and Arjay for your help. No hills near me, dish out from roof.
My understanding was sat. T.V. was introduced to eliminate these problems, or most of them. Back when you used to have low freq. land transmissions you would get this trouble. In the British Isles we were on the edge of the footprint, one winter the dish was covered in snow and sat. T.V. worked O.K.
Mind you with the co-axial lead, which have air spacers in it, water tends to penatrate in the lead from the aerial. I used to seal the end connectors with silicone grease or self amalgamating tape. Not owning the unit here and only renting it monthly, I do not want to mess with it.
If it keeps on I will tell UBC to remove it. Not worth paying for something you can't watch.
Thanks Doug.

Select Menu - Setup - Receiver Info - Signal Value. The figure displayed should be 255, if not you need to realign or get a service tech to look at the system.
