Don't flatter yourself, I don't have any obsession with you. Only thing I see is that tutone, and no I don't know him, makes a post about the food in The Book House & Coffee Shop, Librarian has a good respond to that. Then you come around with you conspiracy thoughts...

Either that, or they consider said establishment to be a superior competitor.

I agree with you that complaining at the restaurant when you are eating there is a far better choice.

Now let's see if we can find out which samey over-priced farang bar/restaurant he owns!!

=D>

Then you make this OP, seems a little bit obsessed to me. If somebody complains about the food that doesn't necessarily mean the have there own place (maybe he does, maybe he don't) and want to get the competition out of business. Can also just be he didn't liked the food...

Btw. How's the D&D going and did you already get the red stamp in Vientiane?

Sorry, but I'm just a retired guy. No local business involvement. Yeah I paid for the meal, because I ate most of it, I was hungry. I'm not the type to complain usually. I just noticed everyone praising the food there and thought I would speak about the meal I had. Maybe my criticism was too direct but it was true. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Anyone who eats in a restaurant and doesn't like the food but doesn't complain and does pay is a complete arse in my humble opinion.

I do it all the time. Why be confrontational pest your whole life? What's wrong with admitting not everyone makes their potato salad like your mommy? If you don't like it you don't have to eat it. You have the choice not to order it again. You have the right not to ever patronize the restaurant again. But you do have to pay for it.

What does whining accomplish? Where does moaning and complaining get you?

Bite that bait, Mr. Fish!

Wow! Look at all of your little quotes. I am flattered.

D&D group? Check out my posts elsewhere in the forum.

Red stamp? You clearly don't know what I do.

Any more bitchy questions or is it perhaps time to develop a sense of humour?

It will get you this:

When I was in high school I worked washing dishes part time at a restaurant. One of the cooks (who was a first class a-hole) would act like you insulted his mother if a customer sent food back to the kitchen. He would then spit in the food (or worse) before it was sent back out to the table.

Thats why I never complain about the food in a restaurant, I just don't go back if it's bad.

Having been both a diner and a business operator in the restaurant game, l feel l can speak with some authority in relation to making and handling complaints. I have yet to meet any business person who has deliberately set out to serve up sub standard fare. The chefs that l have employed all have a passion for food with a well developed sense of creativity. Chefs take a great deal of pride in their presentation as it is an extension of themselves. On occasion, chef's will have a meltdown which can be contributed by inexperienced wait staff, sudden increase in unannounced diners, the chef having an off day or the raw product delivered is not to the required standard. As a business owner, l would prefer to know about a shortcoming at the time so that the problem can be rectified there and then. It may be to the Librarian's benefit to train staff to return to the table after a couple of minutes to seek confirmation that all is well at the table or enable the diner to advise the wait staff that there is a problem in a discreet manner. Once the diner has passed this point without issue l do not believe they are entitled to lodge any complaint.

You can be sure that any restaurant which prides itself in offering quality fare with well trained staff who are attuned to the needs of the dining public would not tolerate the type of conduct alluded to by Mr. Natural.

I have not been back to Udon since the establishment of the Book House and Coffee Shop but look forward to enjoying the ambience that has been created by the owner with the clever merging of the book store/coffee shop/restaurant/dinner entertainment. Keep up the good work Librarian

The problem with complaints - Genuine or Not , and should they be aired on a public forum - if so , for what motive ?

this is what i think -
i find it very unlikely that a person would dislike everything about a meal.. yes , he may not like the spiced sausages , or the black pudding or he may not like pepper added for flavour , but to pick out everything and say it wasnt good ..the odds are probably very high against a total dislike .

there are 2 types of complaints , the 1st being a genuine customer disasatisfaction , and the second being a malicious attempt at damaging the business - for various reasons .

a genuine complaint that the meal served is too hot or cold , doesnt taste nice , has too much of one ingredient ie too much pepper etc etc . is obviously a valid one - but at what point should the business owner seek to address the problem ? if a customer has eaten all the food and then complains , is he entitled to a refund ? some form of redress ?

bearing in mind that you cannot please all the people all the time , the best you can do is do your best .

in the case of Trutone saying he didnt like the meal , that is his perogative

he said the mashed potatoes were like gruel - mashed potatoes are simply peeled potatoes , boiled , mashed with a little milk and butter - thats it .. no cooking skills involved .. no way to mess up the taste ..impossible for something to go wrong .. i can only assume he didnt like the flavour of the potaoe itself ?

the carrot he said he couldnt chew through -
some people believe vegetables should be just shown some hot water briefly , thus retaining the vitamins , and served .. making the carrot taste crunchy .. some people believe vegetables should be cooked a long time making them soft . Trutone says he couldnt bite through the carrot served ... well here i have no answer because a carrot is a carrot .. you peel it and put it in hot water .. again , if he doesnt like the way we peel our carrots and boil in hot water for about 5 minutes .. there is nothing i can do to change his particular taste preferances .. maybe try a salad next time ? :D

vegetables aside / Coq au Vin and Chicken Chaussuer - main taste differenace is one has Red wine added , one has White wine .. lots of herbs and spices .. some people may not like the taste and the blend of herbs - you cant please all the peoples taste buds , all the time - i readily accept that .( although in my defence i list all the ingredients on a menu board and explain the cooking procedure )

i cannot understand if the meal was so bad , why did Trutone eat it all ? hungry he says? if it tastes bad even if you are hungry , surely you dont eat it ?
why wouldnt you like to bring it to the attention of the cook - we have an open kitchen where you can see you meal being prepared / cooked . dont want to cause a fuss ?
why would you post on a public forum - why can you not talk to the business owner to try to rectify the problem amicably ?

which brings me to my thoughts on malicious complaints with a view to try to damage the business .
probably and usually by either a jealous business owner competitor , or a friend of the jealous business owner competitor or someone you have a disagreement with .

for me , this is easy to spot on the forums , if someone posts a negative or veiled innuendo .. i simply click on the persons posts and see who there allegiance is with ..
by that i mean if *bob , regularly posts on another persons thread .. yeah this is good , that is great , this is wonderful , you can see bob is friendly with the business owner .. if bob then makes some kind of post that could have a negative impact on my business , i know where its come from really .

anyhow , enough of that negative , boyish thinking .

the upside is - its 11am and we have just served our 17th breakfast today ! making it our busiest food start to a day so far.
so as they say - no publicity is bad publicity :D at least i think thats what they say ;)

Thanks

I cannot see anything in Tutone's previous posts to even suggest he has any business connection and he has said so himself in this thread.
