Wife wants to start a business, any ideas?

Postby marcusb » August 21, 2009, 4:45 pm

"".I keep telling her that her most important investment is myself and that,if she doesn't make an effort into starting her visa paperwork, her "investment" will go elsewhere. """"

Just a tad off topic Dougness, but the TGF and I were looking at different ways to stay in the LOS. Teaching, soup stands, small resort etc. Some ideas may have been good, for a modest income. I am 46 and she is 35, were too young to just get by, we need to build some equity.
One day I did a search in the Canada skilled workers immigration site. I looked up Thai cooks as cooks are in high demand and get fast tracked. There were over 30 jobs for Thai cooks across Canada. One restaurant in Calgary was offering the equivalent of 90,000 baht per month. Thats about what a Thai cook at a decent hotel here makes in a year. Well once she saw that she started making travel plans right quick. Our loose plans are to go to Canada in six-eight months, with a marriage visa. Work for 3-5 years, maybe more and come back here and relax. At that point maybe take a job with a modest income.
If your TW can handle the cold (and if your not ready to retire)she really should join you, IMHO, there is just so much more opportunity. I believe 3 years and she can get citizenship and a cdn passport. Lots more doors open.

Wife wants to start a business, any ideas?

Postby dougness » August 22, 2009, 10:27 am

Yes Vlad a much a better idea to have a beauty salon in Patong than Udon,I really wanted her to relocate to Phuket when we met.I had big dreams of working six months and living in Phuket with sweetie for the cold months in Canada. The problem is always the family.I don't want to go there. My wife always says you want my 70yr mother to work in the rice paddies and my niece in a go go bar, some lady can live on 5 thosand baht.I have never suggested anything like this.I can't get a word in edgewise. Then when I say You should think about me and make a better effort to come to my country or I will give up on you,the wailing starts.Just before that there is a cressendo of anger and the forementioned guilt tripping.I hate it when women cry or at least someone I care about does. This topic probably should have been in the relationship column?I promised the members I wouldn't complain.I already give her between 50 and 60 g/baht a month. Her family needs 40,000 which I can't and won't give.Even,if I had it I wouldn't,too many debts now, even with a good job now.I sometimes pray for divine intervention, :D .

She is taking the p1ss out of you mate.

Unbelievable, give her 50-60K per month!!!Of course she knows you are a money pit and easily manipulated with her ''acts''.That is how she got you to that place. She is in full control, you are out to lunch ,in my opinion and don't have a clue about Thai income needs! The is my opinion, not meant to insult you,but you are every Thai girls dream! If you do not believe the posters then take a look at the independent facts, from Bangkok Post. Remember that these figures will be average Thailand. Bangkok wages tend to push the average up & Isaan wages tend to be lower than the resulting average..

hi there,

Yes I agree with the above posters: 50k-60k baht per month is way too much, but of course it's up to you. However, I'll give you an example of Thai wages and what's expected here.

When I first met my now wife, she was working 2 jobs for a total of about 15 or 16 hours per day and getting 5,000 baht per month for each for a total of 10k baht. Before her, my first g/f here was working as a teacher at Santapol College and getting about 7,800 baht per month (about 3 years ago) and living very nicely with a 2 bedroom apartment to rent, state of the art tv, stereo etc etc. A little goes a long way here. I reckon if you were sending 5k to 10k a month it's probably about right - but bear in mind that's what a girl could expect to earn in a whole month!

As for the family wanting that much - they really are talking bollocks. Once you start down that road, there's no turning back because as soon as you cut back you're cast as a villain and a cheap charlie. You're right - look after number one first.

Hope that helps

Quite possibly the lady in question requires the 50-60k per month for the rent of McDonalds when it opens in the UD Centre.....the extra 40k per month will the wages for the parents help in serving behind the counter.
Or it is possible she is a leading actress in the Thai soaps on Channel 3 or Channel 7 ??

Failing that....its not so much being "taken for a ride" more "blasted into orbit !"
Please listen to what the other posters are telling you before its too late and you are financially ruined.

Hmm thought this was about the night market guess not. Next time she asks those questions tell her yes and move on.

Easiest thing to find in Thailand is women the hardest a good one. But, they are out there. Of course each to his own on. You enjoy just keep playing the game. But, your not going to win, your a ATM card not a husband.

This a topic is about WBU. Does seem he has completed his classes just yet.

Good Luck :pirate:

Yes Bob,I was aware of Thai wages a while back, but thanks for the link.It seems like im carrying a disproportionate load for her extended family. Her mothers medical bills might be a factor as well.Iam hoping she comes to her senses and starts her visa paperwork as I cannot give her anymore money. Thanks for all replies.

As stated Doughness hard to accept but ditch her now as you are just her ATM once you run out she wil find another 1. where did you meet her in Patong. If there were Oscars for turning on the tears a thai will see off all comers its just an act nothing more nothing less. Get rid now.
